Approximately 3,000 square feet of deteriorating concrete was removed and replaced with a custom Belgard Holland Stone paver driveway, incorporating diamond and compass inlays to turn a necessary replacement into a defining part of the property.
The existing concrete driveway had developed significant cracking in two large areas. Simply removing and replacing the damaged sections would have solved one problem while creating another: the new concrete would not match the color of the existing driveway. Instead of leaving the property with a visibly patched surface, Edmonds Environmental proposed replacing approximately 3,000 square feet of concrete with an interlocking paver driveway.
Belgard Holland Stone gave the project the flexibility the design required. Its classic 4-by-8 format can be used as a field paver, border, or inlay, which allowed Edmonds Environmental to move beyond a single uninterrupted paving pattern. At the homeowner's request, the lower driveway was detailed with a diamond pattern, a compass was created in the upper driveway, and limestone squares set on a 45-degree angle added another layer of detail through the sidewalk. The result uses the same primary paving material in different ways to create distinction without making the driveway feel overly complicated. Belgard specifically rates Holland Stone for residential vehicular applications, making the product appropriate for both the design and the demands of a driveway.
The finished project gave the homeowner a completely renewed driveway without the cracking or mismatched concrete that prompted the work. It also became something more significant for Edmonds Environmental. The project received Best Driveway recognition at the 2026 Belgard Awards, turning a residential driveway replacement into an award-winning example of what careful design, proper preparation, and detailed paver installation can accomplish.

A vehicular paver installation requires substantially more base preparation than a typical pedestrian paver project. For this driveway, the base used approximately twice the gravel required for a normal paver installation and was compacted to greater than 97%, work that requires the proper compaction equipment before the finished pavers ever go down.
The homeowner did not want approximately 3,000 square feet to read as one continuous mass of pavers. A diamond pattern in the lower driveway, a compass in the upper driveway, and limestone squares set on a 45-degree angle in the sidewalk divide the surface into deliberate visual elements.
